WELCOME TO YOUR PERSONAL INFRARED SAUNA BLANKET
Please read these instructions carefully to ensure you have the best experience possible with your Heat Healer Infrared Sauna Blanket.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to also thoroughly read our full user manual with health and safety precautions here, and do not use the Heat Healer without medical advice first, if you have any pre-existing health conditions.
A full temperature chart showing what each temperature level on the controller corresponds to in Fahrenheit and Celsius is at the bottom of this page.
How to use your sauna blanket and get the most heat out of it
Part One: Where to use your sauna blanket
- Use your sauna blanket in a comfortable, quiet place and on an insulated surface such as a rug, carpet, bed or yoga mat (do not use on a water bed or anywhere near a body of water).
- Using the sauna blanket on an insulated surface ensures that the heat stays within the blanket and does not escape into the floor.
IMPORTANT: Only ever use the Heat Healer on a flat surface.
Do not use your Heat Healer on a recliner or other such surface where there might be a risk of the blanket getting crimped, twisted or wedged between cushions, other materials or moving parts.
Part Two: Pre-heating your sauna blanket
- It is essential to pre-heat your sauna blanket for at least 15 minutes. Just like an ordinary sauna, your Heat Healer will take time to warm up.
- The longer you pre-heat, the hotter it will become.
- To pre-heat your blanket, set the temperature to your desired level (a temperature chart is at the bottom of this page) and then set the timer for how long you want to pre-heat for.
- Make sure you have your towel (or sauna blanket insert if you purchased one) already in the blanket and on the stones, so that it is ready for you when you wish to enter the sauna blanket.
- It is best to not let the timer run to zero when you are pre-heating, as this will just turn the blanket off, meaning you will start to lose heat.
IMPORTANT: You should always keep a barrier between your body and direct contact with the blanket.
This means placing a towel down on top of the jade & tourmaline stone, as well as wearing loose fitting cotton clothes (or if you have purchased our specially designed sauna blanket insert, you can just use that).
Part Three: Preparing your body for your sauna session
It is important that you take your time and put your body into a good state of being in order to maximise the benefits of your Heat Healer.
Whilst your blanket is pre-heating, we recommend:
- Have a warm shower before your sauna. This will help to open your pores and activate your sweat glands.
- Stay well hydrated.
- Try dry brushing your skin. This will help to rejuvenate your skin, as well as activate your lymphatic system.
- Engage in light cardio exercise to get your heart rate up and your blood flowing (this is optional, but it is a great way to kick-start your sauna session).
Part Four: Entering the sauna blanket
IMPORTANT: Before entering the sauna blanket, you should always perform the 'pat test' to ensure that the surface temperature of the materials is suitable for your skin and body.
To perform the 'pat test', you need to feel inside the blanket with your hand in three separate locations (the top, middle and lower sections of the blanket).
Performing the 'pat test' ensures that the blanket is always an appropriate temperature for your skin and body, before you enter the blanket fully.
You should perform this test each time before you go to use your sauna blanket.
- When you are ready to start your sauna session, reset the timer back to your desired time (Eg, back to 60-minutes).
- Enter the sauna blanket from the top and wriggle your way down. Try not to open the blanket up to much, as this will just let out heat.
Part Five: Trapping in the heat at the shoulders
- Keep a large towel draped over the opening where the shoulders are.
- This will trap in the heat and enhance your overall experience.
- By keeping the blanket as sealed as possible, you are ensuring that the most heat is being retained.
Part Six: Making adjustments to your set up
You should experiment with your set up and your routine to ensure you are the most comfortable and having the best experience.
This can include:
- Keeping your arms outside of the blanket, if this makes your more comfortable.
- Opening the foot flap area, if you find that your feet are too hot or uncomfortable.
- Doing a different activity whilst in the blanket, such as meditation, listening to music, a podcast, etc.
Part Seven: Clean up and pack away
- Make sure to allow your sauna blanket to cool down fully before folding it away. Failure to do so may result in damage to your blanket.
- Wipe your blanket down with any surface spray or anti-bacterial wipe.
- Disconnect your blanket from the power supply.
- We recommend keeping the controller connected to the bottom of the blanket (you can just fold the controller into the blanket)
- Pack your blanket away in the portable carry bag.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I sweat during my sauna session and how long does it take?
It is important to understand that everyone sweats differently. Some people will sweat quickly, whilst for others it will take longer.
If you find you are not sweating as much as you would like to, try increasing the amount of time you spend pre-heating the blanket, have a warm shower before your sauna session and be sure to keep a large towel draped over your shoulders in order to trap in the heat.
Even in the absence of sweat, your body is still benefiting from the infrared heat, as it will be relaxing your muscles, reducing inflammation, improving blood flow, releasing heat shock proteins and benefiting your skin.
What temperature does each level on the controller correspond to?
The maximum temperature is Level 9 (80c / 176f).
Only use the maximum temperature setting if you are used to using the Heat Healer and are comfortable with it getting hot.
At level 9, the surface of the materials will reach 140f (60c) when measured with an infrared thermometer and an overall temperature effect of 176f (80c) will be felt when a person is inside the blanket, with heat coming from both the top and the bottom.
What should I expect during my sauna session?
Infrared sauna is a different experience than traditional dry Finish sauna.
A traditional dry sauna will heat the air around you and you will immediately feel it as you enter the sauna. With infrared sauna (like the Heat Healer) your body is being warmed directly and this is a more gradual process.
For most people, the first 30-minutes will feel warm and snug, whilst in the second 30-minutes things will start to feel more intense.
What should I do during my sauna session?
Use the opportunity to relax. Switch off from distractions like scrolling through your phone or watching TV.
Try to just lay still and focus on yourself. Some suggestions on what to do during use of the Heat Healer are:
- Practice meditation.
- Listen to music or your favorite podcast.
- Practice breathwork (slow, deep and purposeful breathing is best during heat therapy).
- Lay still and do nothing at all.
